Muhammad Ali and Me

One of my claims to fame is that I actually did shake hands with Muhammad Ali. It was several years ago when he was a guest at the Orrin Hatch Invitational Golf Tournament in Park City, Utah.

At that time my daughter was graduating from BYU in Provo, Utah. She had majored in Public Relations and Communication. She had been hired for the summer by the company which was doing the publicity for the Golf Tournament. She invited my wife and me to come to Utah and join in some of the revelry. So we did.

Founding Fathers coverMuhammad Ali was one of the celebrity guests at this event. He was in attendance at most of the ceremonies. We were at one of them where he was an honored guest. As the hostess, or at least one of them, my daughter had us, my wife and me, be able to meet and greet Ali. He was quite courteous and well mannered. He politely shook our hands.

I must say that he did have huge hands. He also was shaking a little as a result of his malady. He was so kind we really enjoyed meeting him. I, of course had known of him since I was in high school and he defeated my favorite boxer at the time, Sonny Liston. He went on to greatness!

Bigger than life, not unlike some of our Founding Fathers! He passed away today here in Arizona where he had a home. So sad.
