I have read the U.S. Constitution many times. I have never read anything in it that claims to have any jurisdiction over the civil condition or authority of marriage. And the Constitution does clearly state that what ever is not directly, by the words of that document, given authority to control or decide, is left to the States or to the People.

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the People.” (Amendment X, The Constitution of the United States).

So who gets to decide what is or is not included as a power in the Constitution? Well, it seems to me that should be the States or the PEOPLE. US. WE THE PEOPLE.

Thomas Jefferson thought that the Judicial branch of the nation should, and would always, be the weakest branch. But one of his first Supreme Court Justices decided otherwise. He said that the Constitution would mean whatever the Supreme Court said it would mean. And that has remained the precedent ever since.

So four or five unelected judges, who are in for life, and are not responsive to the people, can determine at their own leisure what they think the Constitution means. So just one or two people get to decide! Wow! How did we get there?

In Watters World on Fox TV, Mr. Watters goes around to various places, including universities, to see how much people know about their government. Some responses are completely out of this world.

For example: Question “Who was the first President of the United States?” Answer: “Abraham Lincoln?” Question: “Who did we fight against in the Revolutionary War?” Answer: “Russia?” Question: “When was America discovered?” Answer: “1926?”

“If a nation expects to be ignorant & free, in a state of civilisation (sic), it expects what never was & never will be. The functionaries of every government have propensities to command at will the liberty & property of their constituents. There is no safe deposit for these but with the people themselves; nor can they be safe with them without information. Where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe.”

Perhaps education is the answer. Or, at least, would have been. I don’t believe it can ever be corrected at this stage.
