Peanuts and Ben Franklin

Today I happened upon an old Peanuts cartoon which just caught my fancy. I’d like to share it with you.

Ben Franklin thumb pictureSnoopy is lying in the grass and says to himself: ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have given up on my writing.’

Then he sits up and says: ‘I might have written another ‘Heart of Darkness’ or ‘Daisy Miller’ . . . . Who knows?’

Another panel: ‘Of course, there’s always the danger of trying to do to much . . . of getting involved in too many activities.’

Final cartoon panel: Now Snoopy is eating out of his dog dish. And thinks to himself: ‘It’s important that I concentrate on my eating!’

So that’s a little bit about how I feel today. I seem to have been concentrating too much on my eating. The writing has been cumbersome and difficult. Not to my satisfaction.

Except I have started reading my rough draft (2nd or 3rd one) of my new book “A Patriot in Prison” and I was gleefully (as Snoopy would say) heartened and invigorated because it now seems to actually be coming together! It sounded good!!

Perhaps soon it will be a reality. I certainly hope so! I’ve listened to Benjamin Franklin who said it this way: “Would you persuade, speak of interest not of reason.”

I definitely hope the book will be of interest. But also that you will see some reasoning!
