Benjamin Franklin Thanks You

Benjamin Franklin would have appreciated the message in the card I found in a book I had purchased in a Ben Franklin thumb picturebookstore long ago. This bookstore sold used books and I bought this one. I don’t remember where or when. The book is “Ben Franklin’s Almanac of Wit, Wisdom and Practical Advice” with the sub title “Useful Tips and Fascinating Facts for Every Day of the Year” by the Eidtors of The Old Farmer’s Allmanac.”

As I was looking through this book, which I have done many times previously, I came to a small card. It was a thank you card. It could have been written by Ben himself. We don’t send enough thank you card these days!

On the front the card said in beautiful script: “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 7:25.” I haven’t looked up that verse to make sure that’s what it says. I believe it.

On the inside the card says, again in beautiful penmanship type script: “Thank You and God Bless You.” What a nice message. There is a personal handwritten message also on the inside. This says in nice penmanship also: “Dear Rey: I want to thank you so much for the hospitality that you give (sic) to my mother during her visit with you and Martha; (Martha—what a scriptural name!) and for the nice Mother (sic) Day present that you send (sic) me, was very nice of you to remember me. I enjoy looking the (sic) pictures of your nice place, I will send them back to you. (The pictures weren’t in the card, so maybe he or she sent them back.) We all are fine here, I hope you are the same. With many blessing (sic) and Love (no comma) Bob + Elcy Brown.

It was so nice to see such a wonderful, handwritten Thank You card. Ben would have loved it. He was always thanking his friends and others for their kindnesses. Shouldn’t we all?
