I asked my wife for suggestions regarding what I should write about tonight on my Blog. She said: “Since it’s Monday night football, why don’t you write about what football teams the original Americans would root for.”

I answered: “That would be fun, but football hadn’t been invented yet when they were still around!”

But when I thought about it, I thought “what a good idea!”

Of course, John Adams, being from Boston, and a Patriot himself, would root for the New England Patriots. And, I suppose George Washington would join him, seeing as how Washington, DC hadn’t been built yet.

Benjamin Franklin would naturally vote for the Philadelphia Eagles to win, because of his love for Philly.

James Madison lived in the White House in Washington, DC, so I’m sure he would love the Redskins. Yes, even with their mascot!

Patrick Henry would love the “Orangemen” since he was one, but they didn’t come together enough to field a team. And the Orangemen were disbanded after they met their goal of getting back the gun-powder supply they had marched to recover. OK, yes it was just a bond from the Governor. But the State of Virginia doesn’t have a professional football team. Whadya’ think about that?

Thomas Jefferson would be in the same boat as Patrick Henry, however, since he sent the Louis and Clark on their Expedition, which started in St. Louis, he would probably root for the St. Louis Rams.

Then again, as a group, they would all root together for the Arizona Cardinals!

But I do think they would all love the game of football. It’s better than war.
