Looking back over the history of our nation, I have to marvel at how many times our Revolutionary War heroes, and the everyday soldiers and those who supported them, could have just given up, thrown in the towel, so to speak. But they didn’t. They couldn’t. They knew something great was coming.

It’s a wonder, a miracle that this nation was born. It has become the greatest nation ever on earth. Abigail Adams said it this way: “I wonder if future generations will ever know what we have suffered on their behalf.”

I don’t think we have been able to conceive of that, to realize that, to know what they suffered for us.

Dr. Seuss said it this way: “Perhaps this is all for the better somehow. You will start making history . . . right here, right now.” That’s what they did. And that’s what we are still doing.
