I’m going to break with tradition a little bit tonite and quote a little bit from my upcoming book, “A Patriot in Prison.” I believe Patrick Henry will be proud of this book, since he was a great champion of the Grand Jury system—as it was in his day!
In the closing chapter, or maybe two, I say the following: “You know I have written several books. And some of you have seen my attempts at poetry and limericks written here in camp. . . . Now I have added to my writings a new verse to a Thanksgiving hymn.
You may want to find a Hymn book and turn to Hymn #92. “For the Beauty of the Earth” and add this as verse 4 to that hymn. . . .
I have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, so I turned to the Hymn book to review some Thanksgiving songs. Just to lift my spirit. And it did. As I turned to Hymn #92 these words just entered my mind and thoughts. Not quite perfect but to me, beautiful. So here’s the new verse:
“For the return of man to wife,
For overcoming all the strife,
For the love of family shown,
For returning to our own.
Lord of All to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.”
Let’s sing it together this year at our Thanksgiving celebrations.
